into Argentina

Finally got ourselves out of Valpo.... on the coast and try and work out how indeed to get out of there and on to the road that we needed. This was, as it has been from day 1 alot harder than I had expected due to the lack of any signage.
Anyway it did finally work and into the valley that would take us over the Argentina boarder. It slowly got colder and snow appearing on the mountain tops. Then after winding up a zig zag road for ever also realized that above us and over the road was several chair lifts. Guess this is a major ski are in the winter and it seemed to be spread over the whole road section as well..... skier killed due to collision with truck....

Once through Immigration which was a story in it self, we slowly descended into quite an amazing land scape. The heat turned itself on which was a relief since at the summit it was trying to snow.
getting into Mendoza seemed to take awhile but once here looks quite a cool city. A heart of the grape growing region and alot larger than 1st thought.
Now we thought Chile was expensive since we couldn't get a room for under US$60 but our shock and horror to be told that to stay in a Hostel here in Mendoza will set us back NZ$75....... dam!! So we found a campsite to crash in over night. No food to be had so it was a bag chips and 2 very large beers, worked a treat and crashed. then only to be awoken by 6 car loads of families who proceeded to play in the park until 2am. That's even after I got up and spat the dummy at them in my best Spanish....... how do you say F--- off in Spanish again!!!!!
It's now back on the road and heading into the deeper South of this final leg. I had a mate write to me a week ago who had got to the bottom but warned that the weather was windy, raining and snowing, in general complete shit. we're looking at having to complete about 6000k's to get there and back and 24 days left before the planes leave. So don't know what will happen but like everything in life..... time will tell.
